| They live in various relict forest areas on Unguja, but a special area for them has been set aside at Jozani Forest, a remnant of the indigenous forest which once covered the island. |
![]() | The Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkeys are highly social, and live in groups. Some of these groups have been habituated to humans, and at Jozani forest, a guide will accompany you to see one of the groups. You can stay for as long as the monkeys like. The monkeys go on with their lives and you can photograph, draw or watch them. | ![]() Leopard once lived in the forest, but a 'bounty' system throughout Zanzibar may have extirpated the island sub-species - it is at best highly endangered. However, the monkeys share at least one habit in common with leopards! |
