Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania | ||
| Selous Game Reserve is the largest reserve in Africa. Unlike many other reserves, you can explore on foot and by boat. We flew into the reserve from Dar Es Salaam, having flown to Dar from Arusha. The river was still very high after El Niño. We stayed at the luxury tented camp which is now called Selous Safari Camp. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and interested in birds; and the food was gourmet! |  The Camp Elephant at breakfast. Me(!) photographing the Camp Elephant |
 This elephant had just come out of the river, and surprisingly, he turned and trumpeted very loudly |
 We were arriving back at camp after a drive when we saw this female bushbuck, catching a beam of light. |

Although the reserve is generally very dry, there are some 'parkland-like' areas which attract mammals like these Giraffe. |
 There are some big crocodiles lying on sandbanks in the river, but they mostly slip into the water before you can get near enough in the boat to photograph them. |
 Hippos can sometimes be really comical. |
