LionessIn the game parks and reserves, you can't get out and walk except around the lodges and camps or in a very few designated areas. Here's why! This lioness was right next to the track - and in some of the other photos (like this one, taken with a compact camera), she is almost invisible. |
| This lioness had just killed a baby impala. The mother impala stood some distance off, and every now and then, walked forward towards the lioness. The lioness' sister was
trying to get a share, but she was having none of it - it was just a tiny impala. After she had finished eating, she walked off, and by leaning out of the vehicle window, we could see that all that remained of the impala calf was some blood on the grass - no sign of even the skull. |

African ElephantWe were able to 'stay with' this elephant for some time, as he was feeding quite happily.Elephants, whether single males, family groups or large herds are always interesting and worth spending time with. They'll soon like you know if they'd prefer not to have your company! |
Bateleur EagleThese birds are stunning aerial acrobats, especially when they are tumbling in mid-air. (Bateleur is French for acrobat.)They have broad wings and very short black tails, making their red feet - which, in adults, trail behind the tail - very distinctive when viewed from underneath. Juveniles are browner overall, with yellow face and feet, and a longer tail. They are regularly seen soaring in dryer areas like Samburu/Buffalo Springs, but they are also seen in grassland areas like the Masai Mara and Amboseli. |
