Red-necked Spurfowl

Francolinus afer cranchii

Unlike the common and widespread Yellow-necked Spurfowl, the Red-necked species is very local in distribution. This is the only one we've seen, in the Masai Mara. It's also found in Ruma, Serengeti and Tarangire NPs.
Another race, leucoparaeus, inhabits coastal areas of Kenya and Lamu.
