African Open-billed Stork

Anastomus lamelligerus lamelligerus

This is a truly awful photo: the bird was a tiny part of a 400 ASA 35mm slide. We saw this individual when we were en route to Lake Victoria, which is one of the best areas to see the species. On our most recent trip we saw a flock fly in to a reservoir in Tsavo East, then a few days later the same number, presumably the same flock, at Amboseli.
Compare the young Oriental Open-billed Storks we saw in the nest at Keoladeo Ghana (Bharatpur) in India.
