Nubian Woodpecker

Campethera nubica

This woodpecker, the male of which (identifed by its red malar stripe) is shown here, is widely distributed in Kenya and Tanzania in two subspecies, that pictured here in Samburu, nubica, and pallida, which is found sparsely along the Kenyan coastal lowlands.
