You could easily spend all day in this area. For maximum time among the dunes, you only have a few options. the nearest places to stay are the expensive Karos, Kulala and the even more expensive Sossussvlei lodges. There is also a campsite near to the main entrance (where you pay). Other than this, you can stay about an hour's drive away in the Solitaire area where there are guest farms; we stayed at Solitaire and Weltevrede. If you stay at the campsite or Sossussvlei Wilderness Lodge (I don't know about the other two lodges) you can 'get in' an hour before sunrise, otherwise you have to wait until the gate opens at sunrise. Get there very early - there's a considerable queue! The reverse applies at sunset. |
