The tomb was started before Akbar's death in 1605, but was not finished until 1612. There is an interesting gateway in red sandstone inlaid in white marble and colourful mosaics. The tomb itself is reached through a charbagh garden, running the gauntlet of troops of grey langur monkeys - who are not shy: keep hold of your personal belongings!
