Common or Grey LangurThis monkey is believed to be the species which built the bridge/causeway from India to Lanka to help Rama to rescue his wife Sita after she had been captured by the demon-king Ravana. The leader of the monkey army, Hanuman, is revered as a deity, so the Hanuman monkeys are well-treated, and often food is put out for them under umbrellas used as parasols. |
